Install the daemon
Drop the hqsshd binary on your Linux or macOS system. It manages sessions, discovers projects, and exposes them over gRPC.

Can I run Claude Code from my phone?

Yes. Claude Code runs on a computer you control — a Mac, Linux server, VPS or home lab box — and HQSSH connects to it over SSH from your iPhone, iPad or Android phone. You get the real Claude Code terminal UI, with a keyboard toolbar for Shift+Tab mode cycling, Esc and Ctrl+C.
Does HQSSH work with OpenAI Codex CLI and other agents?

Yes. HQSSH is agent-agnostic: it launches Claude Code, OpenAI Codex CLI, OpenCode and Aider with one tap, and any other terminal CLI runs in its full SSH terminal. Codex launches are configured to send attention notifications automatically.
How is this different from Claude Code Remote Control?

Claude Code Remote Control only drives Claude Code on the machine where you started it. HQSSH is a full SSH client, so it works with every coding agent CLI on any server you can SSH into, without a relay service, and it adds no model tokens or usage of its own.
Do my sessions keep running when I close the app?

Yes, with the open-source hqsshd daemon installed on the server. Agent sessions live on the server, so you can lock your phone, reconnect from another device (or the hqssh desktop CLI) and pick up the same session with its scrollback.
Will I get notified when an agent needs input?

Yes. HQSSH detects the terminal bell and OSC 9 notifications that Claude Code and Codex emit when they finish or need approval, and shows a phone notification. With the app closed, point the daemon's webhook at an ntfy topic for push alerts.
Do I need to install anything on the server?

No — HQSSH works as a plain SSH client. Installing hqsshd (one command on Linux or macOS) adds persistent sessions, project discovery, agent alerts and task automation. It talks to the app over your SSH connection, so no extra ports are opened.
Does it work with Tailscale or jump hosts?

Yes. Connect to any host your phone can reach over SSH, including Tailscale addresses, and use jump hosts for machines behind a bastion.
Is it secure?

HQSSH verifies SSH host keys on every connection, stores passwords and key passphrases in the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore, and tunnels daemon traffic inside SSH. The daemon also supports an optional per-system auth token.
